Reefer Dispatch
A Dedicated Desk for Refrigerated FreightReefer doesn't forgive mistakes. A dry van that shows up late is an inconvenience; a reefer that shows up with a temperature excursion is a claim — and sometimes a flat rejection at the receiver's dock. This is dispatch for owner-operators and small fleets running refrigerated trailers, built around the freight itself, not just the lane. Run a mix of equipment? See our full dispatch service — this page goes deep on reefer specifically.
Why Reefer Dispatch Is Different
Most desks treat a reefer like a dry van with a cooling unit bolted on. They quote the lane, book the load, and move on — and the setpoint, the pre-cool requirement, the recorder data the receiver will demand all surface at the dock instead of on the rate confirmation. By then it's the driver's problem. A desk that knows reefer works the freight differently from the first call.
- Temperature is a contract term, not a setting. Every load carries a setpoint and a run mode — continuous or cycle — and many shippers won't load a trailer that hasn't been pre-cooled, or won't release it without temperature-recorder data at delivery. Those requirements belong in writing on the rate confirmation, confirmed before the load is accepted.
- The commodity changes everything. Produce, frozen, dairy, proteins, and pharma each move on different rhythms, out of different regions, through different broker pools. Produce especially is seasonal — volume and rates swing with the growing calendar.
- Cold-chain facilities run slow. Grocery distribution centers and cold-storage receivers are among the longest unloads in trucking, with rigid appointment windows and lumper fees that have to be documented and recovered through the broker.
- The paperwork carries weight. A temperature deviation can open a cargo claim, and some commodity sequences require a washout in between. Documentation — recorder data, BOLs, wash tickets, POD — is what protects you when something goes sideways.
How Your EIDDI Desk Runs Reefer
Same discipline we bring to every equipment type, applied to the realities above:
- Load sourcing matched to your trailer, your lanes, and your rate floor — not a generic load-board feed
- Rate negotiation on every load, before it's booked
- Broker communication start to finish — with setpoint, run mode, and facility requirements confirmed up front, not discovered at the dock
- Live check calls and tracking through delivery
- Detention pay negotiation at cold-chain facilities — we contact the broker within 1 hour of a reported delay
- Paperwork handling: rate confirmations, BOLs, and POD collection
We dispatch every major US equipment type — reefer is one of seven:
You remain the carrier of record on every load. EIDDI is a dispatch consultancy — not a broker or motor carrier. See how we verify carriers and standing.
Is This You?
You run a reefer under your own MC Authority and want a desk that understands temperature-sensitive freight, not just lanes.
You're switching dispatchers because your current one doesn't confirm temperature requirements up front — or doesn't negotiate cold-chain detention.
You run mixed equipment — reefer alongside dry van or flatbed — and want every unit profiled and dispatched correctly.
Mixed fleet is never a problem — each unit is profiled by its own equipment type, lanes, and availability, so your reefer and your dry van each get dispatched to the right loads.
What You Get
- Load search begins within 2 hours of you going available
- Qualifying load offers inside 24 hours under normal market conditions
- Weekly billing, in USD, every Monday, for the prior week's loads
The dispatch fee is either a percentage of gross load revenue or a negotiated flat rate, confirmed in your Dispatch Service Agreement before you run a single load — you know your number going in.
Full billing mechanics live on our Process page; full service commitments on our SLA.
You Stay The Carrier Of Record
