Power Only Dispatch

A Dedicated Desk for Drop-and-Hook Freight

Power only means one thing changes everything else: you're not hauling your trailer, you're hauling someone else's, pre-loaded and waiting. No trailer ownership costs, no maintenance — but real questions around interchange insurance, trailer condition, and what's waiting for you after the drop. This is dispatch for owner-operators running power only who want a desk that plans the next pickup before the current load is even delivered. Run a mix of equipment? See our full dispatch service — this page goes deep on power only specifically.

The Freight

Why Power Only Dispatch Is Different

Most desks treat power only like any other load — book it and move on. That misses the entire operating model. A desk that knows power only plans two loads ahead, because the trailer isn't yours and the truck can't afford to sit empty.

  • You're not hauling your trailer — you're hauling someone else's. Power only means providing the tractor only; the trailer is supplied, pre-loaded, by the shipper or broker. That single difference changes almost everything else about how the load needs to be handled.
  • Trailer interchange coverage isn't optional. Because the carrier doesn't own the trailer, standard liability and cargo coverage typically doesn't extend to damage on someone else's equipment. Brokers and shippers commonly require either a trailer interchange agreement (when working a single trailer-owning customer repeatedly) or non-owned trailer coverage (when pulling trailers from multiple sources) before they'll hand over the keys. Confirming the right coverage is in place — and that it's the right type for the specific load — is a step that has to happen before the load is accepted, not after.
  • Pre-trip inspection is a liability issue, not just a safety one. A driver has zero control over how the last carrier treated the trailer — tires, brakes, lights, the condition of the floor. Any pre-existing damage or mechanical issue becomes the new driver's problem the moment they hook up unless it's documented before leaving the yard.
  • The deadhead-after-drop problem is the defining economic challenge. Drop a loaded trailer at delivery and there's no guarantee anything is waiting at the other end — drop-and-hook efficiency cuts both ways. Planning the next pickup before the current load is even delivered is what separates a profitable power-only operation from one bleeding bobtail miles.

The Service

How Your EIDDI Desk Runs Power Only

Same discipline we bring to every equipment type, applied to the realities above:

  • Load sourcing matched to your tractor, your lanes, and your rate floor — not a generic load-board feed
  • Trailer condition and interchange or non-owned coverage requirements verified before you hook up
  • Rate negotiation on every load, before it's booked
  • Reload planned ahead of delivery to minimize deadhead and bobtail miles
  • Broker communication start to finish — calls, emails, rate confirmations
  • Live check calls and tracking through delivery
  • Detention pay negotiation on the live loads that do involve dock time — we contact the broker within 1 hour of a reported delay
  • Paperwork handling: rate confirmations, BOLs, and POD collection

We dispatch every major US equipment type — power only is one of seven:

Who This Is For

Is This You?

A.

You run power only and want a desk that plans your next pickup before your current load is even delivered.

B.

You're switching dispatchers because yours leaves you bobtailing with nothing waiting at the drop.

C.

You run a mixed operation — power only alongside loaded-trailer freight — and want every unit profiled and dispatched correctly.

Mixed fleet is never a problem — each unit is profiled by its own equipment type, lanes, and availability, so every truck in your operation gets dispatched to the right loads.

Transparent Billing

What You Get

  • Load search begins within 2 hours of you going available
  • Qualifying load offers inside 24 hours under normal market conditions
  • Weekly billing, in USD, every Monday, for the prior week's loads

The dispatch fee is either a percentage of gross load revenue or a negotiated flat rate, confirmed in your Dispatch Service Agreement before you run a single load — you know your number going in.

No load booked, no fee. If a week passes with nothing booked, there's no invoice for it.

Full billing mechanics live on our Process page; full service commitments on our SLA.
