Hotshot Dispatch
A Dedicated Desk for Time-Sensitive, Trailer-Pulled FreightHotshot runs on urgency and on a federal weight line that's exact, unforgiving, and based on the rating sticker, not the scale. This is dispatch for owner-operators running hotshot — a one-ton dually and gooseneck, CDL or non-CDL — who want a desk that understands GCWR thresholds and moves at the speed the freight demands. Run a mix of equipment? See our full dispatch service — this page goes deep on hotshot specifically.
Why Hotshot Dispatch Is Different
Most desks book hotshot the same way they'd book any flatbed load, and miss the regulatory line that defines the entire setup. A desk that knows hotshot understands exactly where a specific truck-and-trailer combination falls — and moves at the speed urgent freight demands.
- The CDL line is exact, federal, and based on the sticker, not the scale. Under 49 CFR § 383.5, a Class A CDL is required once the combined Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) of truck and trailer reaches 26,001 lbs or more. Critically, that's based on the manufacturer's rated GVWR on the truck's door sticker and the trailer's VIN plate — not what the rig actually weighs loaded. A driver hauling air can still be over the threshold if the ratings add up that way, and DOT checks the stickers, not the scale.
- Most serious hotshot setups are right at that line. A one-ton dually paired with a 40-foot gooseneck is the most common configuration in the industry, and depending on the specific trailer's rated GVWR, that combination frequently sits right around — or over — the 26,001 lb threshold. Knowing exactly where a specific truck-and-trailer combination falls is a real compliance question, not a formality.
- Freight is urgent and time-defined by nature. Hotshot exists to move loads that are too small, too urgent, or too oddly shaped for a full truckload booking — a single piece of equipment, an emergency part, a short-notice load a shipper needs gone same-day. The dispatch relationship has to move at the same speed as the freight.
- Trailer type and rating shape what you can haul. Gooseneck and bumper-pull trailers each carry their own rated capacity, and that rating — combined with the truck's — is what determines both the legal weight ceiling and the CDL question above. A dispatcher who understands a carrier's specific equipment ratings can match loads accurately instead of guessing.
How Your EIDDI Desk Runs Hotshot
Same discipline we bring to every equipment type, applied to the realities above:
- Load sourcing matched to your truck and trailer's actual rated capacity — and your CDL status
- Urgent, time-defined loads prioritized and confirmed fast, without sacrificing rate negotiation
- Rate negotiation on every load, before it's booked
- Broker communication start to finish — calls, emails, rate confirmations
- Live check calls and tracking through delivery
- Detention pay negotiation — we contact the broker within 1 hour of a reported delay
- Paperwork handling: rate confirmations, BOLs, and POD collection
We dispatch every major US equipment type — hotshot is one of seven:
You remain the carrier of record on every load. EIDDI is a dispatch consultancy — not a broker or motor carrier. See how we verify carriers and standing.
Is This You?
You run hotshot — CDL or non-CDL — and want a desk that understands GCWR thresholds and urgent freight, not just lanes.
You're switching dispatchers because yours doesn't move at the speed hotshot freight demands.
You run mixed equipment — hotshot alongside flatbed or other types — and want every unit profiled and dispatched correctly.
Mixed fleet is never a problem — each unit is profiled by its own equipment type, lanes, and availability, so every truck in your operation gets dispatched to the right loads.
What You Get
- Load search begins within 2 hours of you going available
- Qualifying load offers inside 24 hours under normal market conditions
- Weekly billing, in USD, every Monday, for the prior week's loads
The dispatch fee is either a percentage of gross load revenue or a negotiated flat rate, confirmed in your Dispatch Service Agreement before you run a single load — you know your number going in.
Full billing mechanics live on our Process page; full service commitments on our SLA.
You Stay The Carrier Of Record
